Chopper Spins Out of Control into Palm Fronds at Well-Known California Coast
A chopper soaring above a crowded California coastline abruptly began spiraling uncontrollably, finally dropping height and crashing into a cluster of palm fronds as spectators looked on.
Videos uploaded online capture the chopper starting to spin near the beach then falling towards the border of the shore, where it becomes wedged among palm groves and a staircase adjacent to the shoreline route.
Emergency Response Details
The Huntington Beach fire department said five people were transported to a medical facility including two who were in the aircraft and were “extracted safely from the crash site” after the incident on the weekend.
Three individuals on the road were injured. Details on their condition were not immediately available.
What led to the incident was still under investigation.
Planned Function
The department said the helicopter was connected to an annual “Cars with Copters” benefit occasion scheduled for the next day.
